Terming the month of Ramadan as a blessing for entire Muslim Ummah that helps in physical and spiritual cleansing, Hurriyat (M) Chairman and Jammu Kashmir Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said while this month teaches forbearance, fear and abstinence, and dedicating self in the way of the Almighty Allah, it also teaches to practice piousness and control cravings.Delivering Waiz-o-Tableeg at the Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar’s Masjid Narwara to an impressive gathering about the ‘Ten Days of Forgiveness’ of Ramadan, the Mirwaiz said the holy book of Quran and all books that were revealed to the Prophets were revealed during this holy month and Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Decree) that also falls in this holy month is equivalent to 1000 months.He said despite being a Muslim society, it was a pity that various social evils were coming to fore every other day in Kashmir, which were weakening the conditions of Kashmiri people and Kashmir economy as a whole.

Hurriyat (M) Chairman said the problems the Ummah was facing could not be resolved by mere wordplay and urged everyone to come forward and take practical steps to nip the evil in the bud.Stressing that Ramadan provides an opportunity to come closer to Allah by being in His obedience and also in shaping one’s character, he said an individual’s character not only shapes his own life but the entire society’s by bringing better changes in the environment around him or her.Urging the Kashmiri youth to shape their character in such a way that they become idols for the rest of the people in the society, the Hurriyat (M) Chairman said Islam lays added emphasis on character development and that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) became a role model for everyone by setting an example with his own shinning character.He said every Muslim should have such a character that non-Muslims get impressed with them and get attracted toward Islam.
