Two militants were Friday killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.Defence spokesman, colonel N N Joshi told KNS after specific information about the presence of militants in Bomai village of Sopore, the forces of 22Rastriya Rifles of army, SOG of police and CRPF,35 RR cordoned off the area in the wee hours of this morning and launched search operation to nab the militants. “The militants during the search operation fired upon army thereby triggering a gunfight in which two militants were killed,” he said, adding that some ammunition was also recovered from the encounter site.Reports said that the locals mostly youth took to streets and stated protest demonstration.The youth were raising pro-freedom slogans.Nonetheless, police disbursed tear smoke shells to disperse the youth who were throwing stone to them.Meanwhile, Director Inspector General (DIG), north Kashmir, Uttam Chand told KNS that the identification of the two militants who were killed in Sopore encounter is yet to be ascertained.
