Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who has been placed under house arrest since Tuesday evening by the state administration and barred from carrying peaceful political activities Wednesday, said the coalition government under its anti-Kashmir policies had done this to scuttle the peaceful protest programmes called by the united resistance leadership.

Terming the use of force and placing of Hurriyat (M) leadership and activists and other resistance leaders under house arrest and in detentions as a worst example of state-sponsored terrorism, the Mirwaiz said the state government under the garb of so-called democracy was adopting dictatorial policies and using excessive force for crushing the resistance leadership.Stressing that every voice being raised to highlight the sufferings of the people was being crushed and the resistance leadership targeted for protesting to safeguard the interests of the people against these anti-Kashmir policies, he said arrests and house arrests of the resistance leadership had now become a routine and the character of the government.

Making it clear that Kashmir was not a law and order problem, the Hurriyat (M) Chairman said the ground realities could not be changed by using politics of oppression and suppression.Terming the mysterious killing of a Bemina youth, Tanvir Sultan as unfortunate and unexplained, he said, as per the statements of his family members, the youth was a psychiatric patient but the state government and various agencies of the Indian forces were bent upon proving him a militant.Calling for an impartial probe into the killing of the Bemina youth, the Mirwaiz said using laws to kill innocent people should be a matter of concern for the international human rights bodies and it was the moral responsibility of these organisations to play a role in stopping such incidents in Kashmir.

Meanwhile condemning the house arrest of the Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam and Javaid Ahmad Mir and police raids on Engineer Hilal War’s house and APHC Headquarters at Rajbagh during which APHC activist Abdul Majeed Wani was arrested and lodged in PS Raj Bagh, arrest of Parvez Ahmad Dar at Cargo Police Station, and house arrest and detention of several other resistance leaders and activists, a spokesman of the APHC said by adopting such measures, the government cannot force the resistance leadership to give up on their stand, despite placing curbs and restrictions on the public movement, a large numbers of people participated in protest programmes.Meanwhile a delegation of APHC comprising of Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi and other Hurriyat activists participated in the silent sit in programme at Lal Chowk and registered protest against the anti-Kashmir policies of the government.Meanwhile, a delegation of APHC participated in the Nimaz-e-Jinazah of the martyred Bemina youth and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family on behalf of the APHC Chairman.
