Jammu and Kashmir Liberation front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik who was re-arrested on 11th June has been released from police custody while JKLF vice chairman Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi who also was taken into custody on 25th May still remains in jail.In a statement issued to KNS, JKLF spokesman said that police last night raided the residence and residence of at least two relatives of JKLF Zonal organizer, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri and harassed his family. While condemning the continued detention of Vice chairman Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and nocturnal raids on leaders, JKLF spokesman said that incarcerating political leaders and activists and nocturnal raids on their residences that too in the holy month of Ramadhan speak volumes about the anti-Kashmiri and anti-Muslim approach of so-called rulers.
He said that Bakhshi was arrested by police on 25th May; he was kept under house arrest for some days and then shifted to police station Bemina from where he was shifted to central jail Srinagar on 4th June under 107/151 Cr pc. “As these offenses are bail-able, Showkat’s lawyers moved court of Tehsildar west (Shaltaing central) for the bail but said Tehsildar and his office using delaying tactics denied bail to Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi,” he said.He said that such is the lawlessness practiced by civil administration and police that Showkat was never presented before any magistrate but still sent to central jail on remand and now same unlawful practice is being practiced to deny him bail.JKLF condemns this callous approach of the rulers and their administration and pledges to continue the resistance movement despite all these oppressive measures.
