Minister for Agriculture Production, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, today, replying to a question of Vikramaditya Singh, informed the House that the State Government is taking various measures to increase the production of Basmati Rice in the State, besides ensuring increased earning to farmers.The Minister said Basmati Rice being a commercial/cash crop, the Department is imparting knowledge to farmers about improved techniques with the involvement of SKUAST-Jammu, Basmati Export Development Foundation, Basmati Growers Associations and farmers ‘ groups, besides Department of Agriculture is facilitating farmers in producing good quality Basmati to fetch good remuneration in the market. He said that to ensure profitability of farmers, certified quality seeds, MOP fertilizers on subsidized rates and transferring technology through extension programmes is done.
