With the continuous upgrading of the Health care facilities in all the government health institutions in Punjab and due to this enhancement, the government hospitals have surpassed the private sector in conducting institutional deliveries in the state. It was for the first time in the history that Punjab has achieved such an achievement.Disclosing this here today Surjit Kumar Jayani Health and Family Welfare Minister Punjab said that total 3.61 Lac institutional deliveries conducted in the state during the current fiscal year 2015-16 so far, as many as 1.93 lac deliveries were recorded in the government hospitals while the private hospitals contributed for the rest 1.68 lac deliveries.Adding further the Minister said that the Punjab government was committed to provide quality health care facilities and the trend to be treated in government hospitals instead of private hospitals has been noticed across the state. Reversing the age-old trend, the government institutions conducted 53 per cent of the total institutional deliveries this year so far while the private institutions had to contend with 47 per cent share.

He also said that the medical and Para-medical staff has been professionally groomed and the cashless conduct of deliveries has also made the difference. The Punjab government hospitals are now a phone call away as the pregnant women are just required to call at 104 a toll free number and and the ambulance from would come to take them their place to the nearest hospital and keep them till the delivery with all the expenditure on drugs, diet and other requirements to be met by the government, revealed Mr. Jayani. He also said that the free service begins right from the very first visit of the pregnant women to the government hospital for examination and continues till the time of delivery. The free package later covers all the newborns that are provided entire vaccination and other requirements totally free for complete one year.

Ms Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary Health Punjab added that under the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram, all drugs, diagnostics, consumables, blood, diet and even transportation was given free of cost to all the pregnant women, irrespective of their financial or social status, and also the infants up to one year of age and all girl child up to the age of 5 in all Govt hospitls of state. Besides every women of BPL families was provided cash incentive of for fulfilling her nutritious diet even after the delivery.She also said that besides this the Punjab government has also taken stringent measures to check the unlawful violations of PC& PNDT Act. Inter-State coordination with neighbouring States has been stepped-up for catching the violators of PC PNDT act. Detective agencies have been empanelled for sting operations against the violators of besides announcing a reward to informers.
