Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq today convened a meeting of officials to take stock of water supply scenario in Kupwara districts.The meeting was attended by Sanjeev Verma, Secretary PHE, Chief Engineer PHE GM Bhat, Superintendent Engineer PHE-Mechanic (North), SE Hydraulic Handwara, Executive Engineer PHE (Kupwara), Exen Mechanical (North), Exen Ground water (Srinagar) and AEE Ground Water North.The Minister said there was a need to take immediate steps to overcome the water scarcity problem in the district and directed the officers and Engineers of PHE to gear up their field functionaries and expedite the pace of work on all WSSs pump stations and irrigation projects so that people of these areas don’t face any inconvenience.The Minister directed the officers to ensure that necessary steps are taken at an earliest for providing safe drinking water to the people. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Government to provide requisite facilities to the people.
Abdul Haq said two water supply schemes from Nallah Ophen & Balnaar Dobhan and Lastiyal Kalaroos are being formulated under BADP and forwarded to Government of India for arrangement of funds.The Minister also called for early completion of Water Supply schemes at Dharpora, Hayatpora Thandoosa, Dadchack and Raschack and directed the officials to remove all bottlenecks that hinder the work on these schemes.He directed officials to prioritize work on digging percolation wells at Goose Zangli, Badi-Bera and Kuligam during the current financial year.The Minister also asked the officials to formulate a comprehensive DPR for all the closed schemes in Lolab valley for an amount of Rs 4 crore so that grievances of the people are met to the larger extent.He also directed the officials for repairing the old existing structures of various WSS which are leaking presently.
