The Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal has once again succeeded in getting a big bonanza for State farmers with the Union government clearing a Rs 209 crore irrigation project in Punjab.Disclosing this in a statement here today, Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal said the Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation had accorded approval to the Ghaggar Branch Canal, Part-1 CAD project under Command Area Development and Water Development and Water Management (CADWM) program.The Union Minister said the Rs. 209 crores project would prove to be a game changer for the farming community of Mansa and Bathinda districts of Malwa region and give further impetus to the increase of agricultural output in the state.

Profusely thanking Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Uma Bharti, Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that with accordance of sanction to this remarkable project, the Union Government has once again demonstrated that it shares the vision of the Punjab Government for the overall development of the state.It is pertinent to mention here that earlier also due to the persistent efforts of Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the Union Government had  approved Rs. 916 Crore project of brick lining of the water courses attached with 130 km length of Kotla Branch and Patiala feeder of Sarhind Canal which would cover 561 villages of Malwa area. Total length of water courses to be brick lined will be 4418 km benefitting 2.66 lakh hectare areas under agriculture. This had proved beneficial to the Lakhs of  farmers of 13 Assembly constituencies comprising Mansa, Budhladha, Sardulgarh, Maur, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda (Rural), Sangrur, Dhuri, Sunam, Amargarh, Barnala, Mehal Kalan and Bhaduar.
