Terming the continued house arrest of Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq as a mean tactic to stop his political, religious and social activities, an APHC spokesman Saturday said this amounted to an open violation of basic human rights and norms of democratic behavior.Stating that the Hurriyat (M) Chairman and most of the Hurriyat leadership including senior APHC leaders Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, the Media Advisor of APHC as well as the other resistance activists had been placed in detentions or under house arrest, he said this was a matter of serious concern and that these inhuman and undemocratic measures of the government reflected frustration and desperation.Condemning the detention and house arrests of the resistance leadership, and placing curbs on their movement, the spokesman said the ruling class would not be able to achieve anything by using such tactics and instead these tactics boost the morale of the resistance leadership and the freedom-loving people of Kashmir. The spokesman further said the arrests, restrictions and curbs would not help resolve any issue as the people of Jammu Kashmir were fighting for their basic right of self-determination and people had continuously been sacrificing their lives and properties for this movement. The spokesman said until Kashmir issue was resolved as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu Kashmir, peace, prosperity and development of the region would remain an elusive dream.

Stressing that the deteriorating situation in Jammu Kashmir demands the attention of the international community, especially the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), he urged both these organizations to play an effective role to create a conducive atmosphere for meaningful negotiations between New Delhi, Islamabad and people of Kashmir in order to find an acceptable and honorable solution to the Kashmir issue. Voicing concern over the mysterious killing of a youth, Liyaqat of Handwara, the spokesman said it was a matter of concern where the role of security agencies could not be ruled out and the demand of an impartial probe to bring truth to the fore was just and reasonable.Meanwhile, commenting on the report in ‘The Telegraph’, a prominent Indian newspaper, about the Government of India’s plan of setting up of notorious and infamous Guantanamo Bay type prison in Kashmir, which according to the report, the coalition government in the state has already agreed to, APHC spokesman said this was a matter of grave concern for the freedom loving people of Kashmir and the plan was meant to implement the aggressive RSS agenda in Kashmir. The spokesman said that these designs were being made to break the will of the resistance leadership and freedom-loving people of Kashmir and recalled that even the United States had to close down the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison due to the strong protest against it raised by the human rights bodies and the influential members of the international community.
