A policeman, who was attending the wedding of his cousin, has been killed when militants attacked NC district president Pulwama Ghulam Mohiddin Mir in Monghama village in the district.Mir was attending wedding of the daughter of his friend, Abdul Rahim, in the village when two militants attacked him and his Personal Security Guard, a police official told KNS.SP Pulwama Rayees Ahmad Bhat told KNS that the injured policeman has succumbed to his injuries.He has been identified as Riyaz Ahmad Ganai son of Abdul Samad Ganaie of Monghama village. “He is a constable and was attending the wedding of his cousin,” the SP told KNS.The official said that Mir was unhurt but his PSO received minor bruises in the attack, but militants decamped with his service rifle.“However, when militants opened fire on the PSO (Shabir Ahmad of Awantipora) the bullets did not hit him and whizzed past close to his nose, but hit another policeman, who was a guest at the function. He was not deployed with Mir as security guard. He was critically injured in the attack and was rushed to the District Hospital Pulwama, where from he was shifted to SKIMS, Soura,” the official told KNS.Doctors in Pulwama hospital said that Riyaz had critical bullet injuries in his head, neck and chest.Immediately after the attack, police and forces cordoned off the area to search for the militants.
