Department of Horticulture, Kishtwar today organised an awareness camp for upgrading the knowledge of farmers and orchardists of the district at new District Administrative Complex.Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner Kishtwar, G N Balwan laid stress on issuing Soil Health Card to all farmers of the area in order to increase the overall productivity of horticulture, agriculture & allied crops in the district.The DC Kishtwar evinced keen interest in the programme and highlighted the importance of adopting scientific method to increase the Horticulture production.Around 150 farmers participated in the camp who were imparted training by departmental experts. Farmers were lectured on improving soil health by adding soil amendments to correct shortages and excess of nutrients, if any in their orchards.On the occasion, Director Horticulture Jammu provided a mobile soil testing van which is capable to conduct all major soil tests including soil organic matter, together with the quantity of soil macro and micro nutrients.During the event, Chief Horticulture Officer threw light on the benefits available to the farmers under various schemes being implemented by the department.
