The alleged failure of the government to construct bridge over Rumshi Nallah connecting South with Central Kashmir sparked a protest in Pulwama district. The protesting locals from Rohmu and its adjacent areas said that Rohmu has remained disconnected with the rest of the valley after 2014 floods.Frustrated with “government apathy”, people accused administration of incompetence. Large number of people hit to road on Monday and amid anti-administration slogans demanded that construction work on the bridge should be started without any delay. They said they constructed temporary passage over the Nallah seven times on their own but these get washed away every time area receives heavy rainfall.“Bridge was damaged during 2014 floods and from that time no one has taken any initiative to rebuild it. Many times we approached government, but nothing was done, we built the diversion seven times till today,” Abdul Qayoom, a local told CNS.

“The lack of connectivity gives tough time to people especially patients and students,” the protesters said.  The bridge connects Yusmarg, Char-i-Sharief and Pakharpora areas of Central Kashmir to the rest of the South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.    When contacted, Roads and Buildings Minister Abdul Rehman Veeray said that the bridge will be rebuilt to ease out the sufferings of the common people.
