The Vigilance Bureau today nabbed a Junior Engineer of POWERCOM red handed while accepting bribe of Rs.5, 000.Disclosing this spokesman of Vigilance Bureau said that Harpinder Singh, JE, POWECOM posted at Sri Amirtsar was nabbed on the complaint of Mr. Sukhbir Singh s/o Mr. Nirmal Singh residence of Village Lapoke Tehsil Ajnala of District Sri Amritsar . In his complaint to the vigilance Bureau Mr. Sukhbir Singh alleged that due the some technical problem in his electricity meter he received bill of lesser amount of Rs. 280. On request of Sukhbir though the faulty meter was replaced with a newer one but private assistant of accused JE demanded bribe of Rs. 10,000 on behalf of JE Harpinder Singh. The complainant alleged that when later on he met JE he too demand bribe of Rs. 10,000 failing which the JE threatened to impose huge penalty by leveling false charge of tempering with the meter. The complainant alleged that he gave Rs. 5,000 to the JE as the first installment of the bribe.On the tip off provided by the complainant a trap was laid and the JE Harpinder Singh was nabbed red handed while receiving the bribe of Rs. 5,000.
