Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed held a meeting with civil society members, prominent citizens and representatives of different trade associations here at Dak Bunglow Khanabal.The meeting was attended by representatives of South Kashmir Civil Society, All Traders Association, Medicos union, transport associations, prominent personalities, NGOs and media persons. The members presented their grievances and suggestions to the Deputy Commissioner regarding plethora of issues being faced by the common people of the district and requested the Deputy Commissioner to mitigate them in the shortest possible time. The issues that were highlighted during the meet included decongestion of the business hubs, removal of encroachments, dog menace in the old town, proper sanitation and cleanliness of the streets, completion of under construction bridges within the stipulated time, completion of Ring road and provision of adequate parking slots.Deputy Commissioner assured them that while most of the grievances requiring lesser time shall be sorted out in the coming days, remaining issues require proper planning for their implementation.
To tackle the menace of traffic gridlocks, especially at the Mehandi Kadal junction, Lal Chowk and Khanabal, DC said that after the completion of Ring road connecting Mehandi Kadal and Ashajipora traffic congestion to a large extent would be eased. He directed the traffic authorities to deploy adequate man power at these junctions to avoid gridlocks especially on the routes that lead to the district hospital. The traders apprised the DC about the provision of relief to the leftover traders and the problems faced by them and people, in general, due to September 2014 floods. DC said that compensation money to most of the families and traders has been provided, while pending traders will be granted compensation after the verifications and objections are corrected.Deputy Commissioner said that the civil and police administration would be meeting public on a regular basis in Public Darbars. He said that robust grievance cells would also be setup in the district which would look into the matters pertaining to functioning of government departments and will be monitored personally by the Deputy Commissioner. Deputy Commissioner also sought cooperation of all stakeholders in the decision making and implementation of development projects to make Anantnag district a prime district in terms of public service delivery.
