Authorities Monday re-imposed curfew in Handwara town and Terhgam village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district after the clashes erupted during the relaxation hours of curfew.As soon as the curfew was relaxed in Handwara town, the locals took to streets and protested against the five killings in the district. “The protesters pelted stones to the police while the forces deployed in the area disbursed tear smoke shells to disperse the agitated protesters,” eye witnesses told KNS.They said that soon after the clashes, the authorities re-imposed curfew in the town.According to an official, the curfew was relaxed for three hours in the town but soon after the clashes erupted in the area; they imposed restrictions once again to thwart any possible protests in the area. Meanwhile, curfew was also re-imposed in Trehgam village of the district after locals staged protest against the Kupwara killing.

According to locals, clashes also erupted in Kupwara town after curfew was relaxed by the authorities in the wee hours ofMonday morning.They said that forces disbursed to tear smoke shells to disperse the agitated protesters.DIG north Kashmir, Uttam Chand told KNS that barring minor clashes between youth and security forces in Handwara town, the overall situation in Kupwara district remained under control.Meanwhile, mobile internet services which remained suspended for the four consecutive days in Valley were restored today.Mobile internet services remained suspended since Wednesday night after the killings of five civilians including a woman in Kupwara district.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Javaid Mujtaba Gilani has reportedly said that the mobile internet services had been suspended to prevent anti-social elements from spreading rumours.Pertinently, the authorities had announced relaxation in curfew from 08:00am-11:00am. The curfew remained in force from Tuesday, after the killing of three civilians, including a woman, in army firing on locals during the protests against an alleged molestation of a minor girl by an army man in Handwara town on Tuesday.Two more youth were also killed on Wednesday and Friday during the protests following the killings of three persons in the district.
