With the market for Indoor Air Quality is expected to exceed $7billion by 2024, Zayed University students were trained successfullyto help minimize negative impacts of pollution and improve air quality control across the UAE. Zayed University students along with their mentors were present at the second day of Think Science Fair held at Dubai World Trade Center to raise public awareness of air pollution dangers and best practices for improved air quality.Speaking on the occasion, Fares Howari, Professor for Environmental Science at Zayed University, said: “Around 40 students at Zayed University received a training with the Camfil Group, a world leader in the development and production of air filters and clean air solutions. They have successfully completed 20 hours, in which they learnt effects of air pollution on humans, plants, and animals and effective strategies for fast-tracking reduction in air pollution-related death and disease.” “Such traning is extremely essential for students to cope with the hazards that can be expected from the pace of climate change in this century,” Howari added.

During the second day of the fair, Zayed University students featured a dust-tracking technology that can measure particulate pollution, which includes black carbon and dust particles.“Our respiratory system quickly and easily absorbs dust particles that we constantly exposed to. Therefore, inhaled particles may cause serious health risks such as fatigue, nausea, allergy, asthma, and lung cancer,” Professor Howari added. During the fair, Zayed University students displayed a device that can track Particulate Matter (PM) within homes and offices and consequently install effective air filtration and cleaning systems. “During the 20-hour training program conducted at Zayed University, students have demonstrated a great ability to lean. They were extremely enthusiastic, responsible, and responsive,” DrNodirjonRasulov, Indoor Air Quality Specialist at Camfil, said.“The best part of this training program is that students have asked smart technical questions, which I usually receive from engineers with more than ten years of experience. Such questions prompted me to conduct more research that revolves around air pollution and indoor air quality,” DrRasulov added.
