Mobile Cancer Screening Van commissioned

The recently opened Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has received a cancer screening vehicle which is equipped with mammography unit, ultrasound, and a consultation room where cervical cancer screening and general patient examination can be done.The hospital shall be organizing health camps in different districts to deliver medical services in the remote areas. The Mobile Cancer Screening Van which was commissioned today contains facilities of mammography, sono-mammography, ultrasonography, Pap smear, ECG, vitals monitoring and general physical examination. The mammography will be used exclusively for screening breast cancer in women who are above the age of 40 years. 

The mammography image will be captured on a computerized radiography cassette and this image will be processed by using a CR processing system. One hundred patients can be screened in one hour by this mammographic machine. Screening for female cervical cancer will be done by taking Pap smear.Dr (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer informed that the patients who are screened in the camps and are found to need specialized care/treatment will be referred to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital. Dr SP Singh, CEO Narayana Superspeciality Hospital Pvt Ltd, informed that, initially, the Van is planned to cover identified stations and locations in districts Reasi, Udhampur and Jammu. The screening Van will operate in coordination with village panchayats and community based organizations.
