Governor N. N. Vohra has appointed Mr. M.S. Rather, formerly Secretary Social Welfare Department, J&K Government, as Honorary General Secretary, J&K, State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society.The Governor, who is the President of Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, has made the appointment of Mr. Rather for a period of three years, from the date he assumes charge. He replaces Ms. Roma Wani, the Honorary General Secretary, who recently completed her three year tenure.Mr. Rather, an IAS officer, has served the State Government in various capacities including as Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Director Technical Education, Director School Education Kashmir, Vice-Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority before retiring on superannuation as Secretary to Government, Social Welfare Department.
