Punjab Government is committed to extend every possible facility to the writers, artists and cultural activists as they are the voice of society mirroring the aspirations of common man and act as bridge between government and common people.This was disclosed by Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab S. Sukhbir Singh Badal in a meeting here today with Dr. Harshinder Kaur M.D. Assistant Professor Patiala and President Action Committee State Medical and Dental Teachers Association Punjab.Listening patiently to her demands for extending medical insurance facility to prominent litterateurs and mandatory availability of Punjabi magazines and newspapers in every private and government school, the Deputy Chief Minister assured sympathetic consideration over the said demands.He further said that the State government encourages writers by conferring them with Punjabi Sahit Rattan and Shiromani Awards in 17 categories along with monetary rewards. While Punjabi Sahit Rattan awardees get Rs. 10 lakh , the Shiromani awardees get Rs. 5 lakh each.He also promised to hold a meeting with representatives of State Medical and Dental Teachers Association Punjab concerning their demands and issues.
