Khurshid Ganai underscores need for vocational trainings

The Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ganai today underscored the need of providing vocational trainings to the youth under skill development initiative so that they can be effectively trained in various trades which would in turn ensure job opportunities and better training facilities to them.The Advisor was addressing officers during the Board of Directors meeting of the J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board held here today.Secretary, Labour & Employment, Ms Nirmal Sharma, Labour Commissioner,  Ms Vipra Bahl, Secretary (Technical) PDD, Secretary J&K  Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board, Syed Murid Shah, officers of Tourism, Labour & Employment and other senior officers were present.

The Advisor asked the officers to ensure that various skill development schemes are made in consonance with the local context and accordingly the expert view should be taken to make them more broad based and according to the needs of the concerned. He said that by doing so we would be creating a huge work force much needed for the rapidly growing building sector in the state  Mr. Ganai directed the officers to ensure that the focus should also be on making various welfare schemes for building and other construction workers more broad based and also ensure that the benefit percolates to the target populace so that they get benefited from these.

The Advisor asked the officers to ensure that more and more workers get registered by the board so that they get benefitted from the welfare schemes. He said that a mass awareness campaign should be undertaken to make workers aware about the schemes being undertaken for their welfare.It was also given out in the meeting that an amount of Rs 52 crore has been released under various assistance programmes to building and other construction workers, besides 2300 marriage assistance cases have also been settled besides 200 death assistance cases.
