With regard to review of cooperative Societies in Kashmir Division a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Registrar Cooperative Societies J&K, Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmed, here today.The meeting was attended by Additional Registrar Cooperative Societies Kashmir, Joint Registrar Cooperative Societies (special) Kashmir, all the District Audit officers & Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies of Kashmir Division.During the meeting it was disclosed that as many as 589 cooperative societies including Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies, Cooperative Marketing Societies and District Cooperative Super bazaars with a working capital of about Rs 40 crores are functioning in Kashmir Division. These cooperative Societies have carried out a business turnover of Rs 170 crores during current financial year.In the meeting it was expressed that in recent years focus has been laid on poultry Development through cooperatives by providing a financial assistance of Rs 12 crores in favour of 44 Poultry cooperative Societies, which are rearing about 15 lakh poultry birds per year. 

Besides this the Department is Registering Self Reliant Cooperative under J&K Self Reliant Cooperative Act 1999 to encourage promotion of Cooperatives without Government assistance. In this connection 967 Self Reliant cooperatives have been registered mainly in Agriculture and Housing sectors.In the meeting it given out that fertilizer distribution continues to be mainly through cooperative sector which ensures distribution of this essential agriculture input in remotest areas of the state. During the current year Cooperatives have distributed 35000 MTs of fertilizer to the farmers involving an amount of Rs 4350.00 lakhs.Addressing the meeting Registrar Cooperative Societies asked the concerned officers  to complete process for elections of cooperatives by 20th of April 2016 so that election schedule is announced. He also urged the officers to conduct timely audit, inspection and verifications of cooperative institutions to enhance accountability and performance.Registrar cooperative societies also impressed upon the officers to switch to your biometric system before 31st of March to ensure punctuality in attendance.Earlier Registrar Cooperative Societies inspected Super bazaar Baramulla & District Central Cooperative Bank to take stock of the overall functioning of these cooperative institutions.
