The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday requested Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung to reconsider his decision to scrap the 'thana' (police station) level committees'."I have learnt through media reports that the thana level committees that I have repeatedly requested your good office to notify in Delhi - against the backdrop of horrific rapes in Delhi - have been scrapped," DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said in a letter to Jung."Scrapping of the thana level committees will be a huge blow to the efforts towards women's safety and democratic decision-making in the state... kindly reconsider your decision," she wrote. The committees, constituted by the lt. governor, include the area's legislator and officials from police, administration and associations as members. She also said that DCW is willing to form a consultative forum with the lt. governor's office to discuss the issue.
