A day long Exhibition cum Kisan Mela organized by Agriculture Department was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah here on Wednesday.Speaking on the occasion, Dr Syed Abid highlighted the pro-farmer initiatives taken by the government for rejuvenation ting agriculture & allied sectors.The Deputy Commissioner stressed upon the farmers of the district to acquaint themselves with the latest techniques to increase the production & quality besides making the field functionaries accountable.During the day-long deliberations, a large number of farmers from the farflung areas of Kulgam district were made aware about how they can adopt agriculture & allied sectors as a means of livelihood to earn a decent income.On the occasion, various departments including Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Horticulture, Sericulture & Fisheries had established stalls displaying their products.
To boost the morale of farmer community, District Development Commissioner also issued on spot appreciation letters among few income generating unit-holders whose performance was outstanding.Chief Agriculture Officer, Kulgam while interacting with the farmer community said that the purpose of the holding such awareness camps is to generate awareness & understanding among them so that they can come forward & see what is in store for them under various centrally sponsored schemes. The department of Agriculture has for the first time kept available high yielding varieties of different seedlings for the growers in Kulgam District besides three seed villages have been established to produce 600 quintals of paddy seeds. It is pertinent to mention that the Agriculture Department distributed 04 tillers, 20 irrigation pump sets, 20 brush cutters & two tractors among the farmers at 50% subsidy in the current financial year in district Kulgam.
