The lack of facilities and absence of staff sparked a protest against Sub District Hospital Beerwah in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Monday.Trouble started when a 13 year old girl Uzma Jan from Kulhama locality was brought in hospital in unconscious state. Uzma according to family members had slipped from the second storey of her house. After finding no staff there, the attendants staged protest while some people tried to ransack the hospital equipments after finding no trolley available in the hospital.“We wanted to refer her (injured patient) to Srinagar, but to our surprise, not a single trolley was available in the hospital leave aside the presence of any specialist,” Muhammad Ibrahim, the father of Uzma Jan told CNS.

Besides family members the attendants too participated in the protest alleging that Block Medical Officer has absolutely no control over the serving staff of the hospital as they frequently remain absent from their duties.“On Sunday a pregnant woman Naza Akhtar was left to die as there was no nursing staff available in the hospital. This hospital lacks in everything while despite repeated pleas, authorities did not act or showed any interest to improve the patient care system here,” said protesters.Despite repeated attempts, Block Medical Officer could not be contacted.
