Government is mulling to allow self- attestation of documents and to reduce the use of affidavits for accessing Government Services.Chief Secretary, B R Sharma in this regard Wednesday chaired a meeting with administrative Secretaries and asked them to review the existing requirements of attestation by Gazetted Officers, notary or affidavit to be attached with application forms.“Undertake an exercise in your respective departments and furnish list of services for which citizens shall be allowed self attestation of documents while accessing various services" Chief Secretary told administrative Secretaries and asked them to complete the process within a week.

Similarly, in services requiring submission of affidavits, Chief Secretary asked the administrative Secretaries to take a review and submit the proposal routed through the Law department to the GAD.The reforms will provide relief to the citizens from unnecessary delay as obtaining either an attested copy of documents or affidavit not only cost money but also involves wastage of time of the citizens and the government officials".The provision of self attestation is citizen friendly as original documents will be required to be produced only at the final stage.
