AMRUT implementation reviewed at Anantnag

To review the implementation of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in the district, the District Development Commissioner, Anantnag Mr. Muneer Ul Islam today convened a high level meeting with Director Urban Local Bodies and officers of other line departments here at DC Office complex.The District Development Commissioner said that Anantnag is among the four towns in the state selected for the flagship urban transformation mission. He said that out of the total estimated cost of AMRUT, first chunk of Rs. 21 crore have been approved by the Union Government for AMRUT Anantnag, which will be utilized for taking up the already approved projects in core area of Anantnag.

Giving details about the plans formulated by the ULB and other line departments, the Director Urban Local Bodies, Mr Tufail Matoo said that as per the state’s revised AMRUT master plan and newly formulated SAAP, the executive wings of UEE, Floriculture, Transport and PHE departments have been asked to prepare DPRs for the core area of Greater Anantnag on the recommendations and guidelines of AMRUT. He said that out of the approved budget for AMRUT, works having maximum public services like provision of drinking water facility, sewerage and drainage have been allotted maximum share for the district in the first phase of implementation.Regarding the construction of main drains and sewerage networks in the district, the Exen UEED informed the meeting that under AMRUT, drainage sector of the distrit has been divided into three zones which covers the areas having least drainage network inluding Sherbagh, Janglat Mandi, Danter, and areas of old town.

Stressing for the facelift of important roads including Khanabal-Pahalgam and Batengo-Bijbehara road, the DDC directed District Floriculture Officer to immediately take of the work of beautification of the roads by planting exotic species of flowers along the corridor besides making them clean and green. The DDC also directed the officers of concerned department to prepare DPRs as per the guidelines of the AMRUT so that funds available are utilized for the transformation of the district without any delay or hiccup.The Director ULB informed that the AMRUT aims to improve the existing basic infrastructure services of the district like extending clean drinking water supply, improving sewerage networks, developing septage management, laying of storm water drains, improving public transport services, creation of foot bridges and creating green public spaces like parks with special focus on creating healthy open spaces for children.
