Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal has accused the Congress of stalling the Goods and Services Tax bill to prevent Prime Minister Narendra Modi from getting the credit of its passage which would streamline the tax structure in the country.Taking part in the debate on the motion of thanks on the President's address in parliament, she said that job creation could be boosted with the passage of the GST legislation besides ensuing better tax management. The Shiromani Akali Dal's Lok Sabha member from Bathinda said many bills were pending in the Rajya Sabha. "Who does not let the house function, does not allow GST?" she said, without naming the Congress. It is mentioned here that the GST bill is pending in the Rajya Sabha and Congress is insisting for some amendments in it.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal said every kind of "disruptive" tactic was being used to stall the bill because the prime minister would get credit if it was passed. She said discussing student politics for hours would not create employment but passage of the GST bill would take the country forward. The minister said though the "disruptive politic" was targeted at the prime minister, it was actually disrupting progress of the country. She also highlighted the government's achievements including increased pace of road construction in comparison to work done during the tenure of Congress-led United Progressive Alliance. The debate was initiated by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi who said India had become the fastest growing economy. She said the NDA was focusing on inclusive economic development which would become ra reality with the participation of all stakeholders including the states, local governments, businesses, NGOs and the people. "Our governance paradigm seeks to undertake development for each and every section of the society. Our goal is to reach out to the poorest of the poor and to the remotest corner of the country and ensure delivery of services," Mrs Badal said.

Mrs Badal said the previous Congress regime looted the country by various infamous scams but the NDA government had auctioned coal mines in a transparent manner and deposited Rs. 3.3 lac crore in the treasury. Besides this, she said Rs. 1.10 lacs crore have been generated from auction of spectrum sale. She alleged that the Congress looted the public money whereas Modi government filled the coffers of nation.Furnishing details of developments facts, she said the present dispensing had constructed 8000 KMs of highways in 2014-015 which was a 125% increase from the previous regime. Besides this, she said 26000 KMs rural roads had also been constructed in 20 months including roads, houses for poor, power generation, railway network and solar energy generation.Mrs Badal said previous government was only talking but nothing was done in a constructive spirit whereas the present regime had initiated several welfare schemes for the poor, farmers and traders including women and children. Thanking the Prime Minister, she said that it is the NDA government initiative in which crores of poor people have registered themselves for insurance.
