Hurriyat (M) Tuesday staged a protest rally in Kashmir capital Srinagar to protest the clean chit to army men involved in the infamous Kunan-Poshpora mass rape incident.More than 32 women were raped by the men of 6 Rajputana Rifles on the night of Feb 23, 1990 during a crackdown, a charge which the army denies.Several leaders of the amalgam, including Javaid Ahmad Mir, Adv Shahid-ul-Islam, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War and others, participated in the rally at Press Enclave in the city centre.“We demand stern action against the culprit Indian Army personnel involved in the most dreadful rape incident in the modern history of Kashmir,” said the protesters.

Hurriyat Conference JK also led a protest in Press Enclave that was led by senior separatist leader Ahsan Untoo. The protesters including human rights workers sough stringent punishment to the accused Indian soldiers.A team of the Press Council of India, led by journalist B.G. Verghese, which was asked to probe the case, said in a report that the alleged rapes never took place.The report came under massive criticism from human rights organizations and others, both Indian and international for having sought to whitewash the incident.The villages are still fighting for justice in different courts of the state.
