Sports being organized by Punjab Govt. in the honor of Shaid-e-Azam Bhagat singh will fill new zeal, encouragement and sense of patriotism among the players & the step initiated by State Govt. is worth appreciation. Govt. has initiated special efforts to promote sports so that players of Punjab could mark the name of their state in the world map. This was stated by Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra while addressing the gathering at Mohali during inaugural function of Shahid-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab games at International Hockey Stadium Mohali. Before this he also waived the flag and honored the march past by male & female players from 22 districts of Punjab. The march past was being lead by Kamalpreet Kaur who has won the bronze medal in swimming at national women festival. During this he formally announced the Shahid-e-Azam Bhagat singh Punjab games 2016. Pledge was taken by players through Kudrat Jot Kaur from Roopnagar who has won the Bronze medal in swimming relay. Torch ceremony was performed by Players Rajbir Singh, Jashandeep Singh, Sahil Chopra, Shivangi & Gargi who performed excellence in swimming.
Addressing the Gathering, Prof. Chandumajra said that Punjab Govt. has started special efforts to rejuvenate and promote the traditional games. In this regards, with the excellent efforts of Punjab Govt., by organizing world cup, the game of Kabaddi has become a renowned game in the entire world. He said that modern stadiums are being constructed in the villages also and gymnasium equipments are also being provided. During this he announced a grant of Rs. 1 lac each to Govt. Senior Secondary School for girls Sohana & govt. high school Desu Majra and also distributed cash rewards to the school students who presented cultural program. Prof. Chandumajra encouraged the players and said that they will achieve name and fame in the field of sports and will make the name of their parents. During this Prof. Chandumajra said that due to special efforts by State Govt. Punjab has got third position in the field of education and the state has become a leading state for having best infrastructure. During this he presented cash reward of Rs. 25000/- to the team of Kapurthala who was at first position in the tug of war game. Team of SAS Nagar was at second position got Rs. 11000/- cash rewards.
Addressing the gathering Deputy Commissioner Sh. D.S.Mangat said that Shahid-e-Azam Bhagat singh Punjab games will be continued till 19 February and 800 male and female players will participate during these games. He said that Hockey matches will be held at International Hockey Stadium, swimming competition will be held at Multipurpose Sports stadium sector 63 and table tennis match will be held at sports stadium sector 78. He said that proper accommodation and food arrangements will be ensured. During this he welcomed all the players. He hoped that new record will be broken during these games.
