An emergency meeting of the Governing Body of Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, held here today at CM's residence.Disclosing this here a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's office said that the Governing Body of PIMS expressed serious concern over the recent developments including the non-payment of salaries to faculty members and other staff, besides the severe inconvenience caused to patients and the disruption of classes for the medical students. The Governing Body of PIMS was of the unanimous view that urgent remedial measures are required to be taken in the matter.The Governing Body of PIMS also took note of the letter dated 3rdJanuary,2014 from the PIMS Medical and Education Charitable Society explaining the organizational changes the Society has made to strengthen its functioning and management.

The said letter further stated that the process of salary disbursement to all categories of employees would be completed on 7thJanuary, 2014 and  College & Hospital would start functioning normally again immediately thereafter.The Governing Body of PIMS in the interest of the Students, Faculty members, staff and the overall development of the Institute took note of the assurance given the PIMS Medical and Charitable Society to resolve all outstanding issues and unanimously decided to re-convene the Governing Body meeting on 10th January, 2014.Prominent amongst those who were present in the meeting included Medical Education and Research and Local Government Minister Mr. Anil Joshi, Chief Secretary Mr. Rakesh Singh, Advocate General Mr. Ashok Aggarwal, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. S.K.Sandhu, Special Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. KJS Cheema, Principal Secretary Medical Education & Research  Mrs. Vini Mahajan, Secretary Expenditure Mr.Jaspal Singh, Prof.(Dr.) K.S.Chugh, Prof.(Dr.) S.B.S.Mann, Dr.S.P.S.Grewal, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, Mr. Varun Roojam, Director Medical Education Dr.Tejbir Singh, Principal Medical College Amritsar Dr. Karnail Singh and Director PIMS Dr. Vimal Sikri.
