National front chairman and Hurriyat leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan said in his statement that Pakistan’s marking 5th feb as solidarity day started in the backdrop of 1990s military onslaught on Kashmiris is a great moral support to the people’s struggle for their rights in Kashmir. This day should be used not only to garner support within Pakistani society but to awaken global consciousness about the happenings in Kashmir. We highly value Pakistan’s support and solidarity with Kashmiris and it reminds us of Allama Iqbal’s similar gestures in 1920s and 1930s when he came to Kashmir and was greatly concerned about the stark conditions in which people of Kashmir lived in those days.It is important that the new generation in Pakistan is familiarised with Kashmir dispute which has led to three full fledged wars , multiple low intensity wars and the continued stalemate in Kashmir resulting from having turned the dispute into conflict of interests by India thereby trying to tell the world that maintaining the status quo is the best option possible.
It is this discourse that Pakistan needs to contest and destabilise by questioning its fascist and anti democratic logic.Nayeem Khan thanks the govt of Pakistan, its entire leadership and people of Pakistan especially its religious , political, social and student organisations for showing solidarity with the oppressed people of Kashmir. He hopes that Pakistan will become actively a solid rock of moral support to the repressed people of Kashmir in their struggle for freedom from illegal and forcible occupation of India What needs to be highlighted are the resultant gross violations of human rights committed on a daily basis at all levels, political, civil, economic, social, cultural and what have you.
