Department of Education and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Govt. Degree College, Kathua organized one-day National Seminar on “ New Education Policy : Issues and challenges” here today in the College Auditorium .MLA Basholi, Ch. Lal Singh was the chief guest on the occasion.Principal of the College, Prof. Netar Singh in his welcome address stressed on the dynamic changes in the new policy and said that the seminar was part of the ongoing consultations by the various stakeholders to seek changes in the present education policy, framed in 1986 and modified in 1992.He said several changes have taken place in the education set up, yet it calls for review in the policy. The Central government is bringing out a National Education Policy to meet the changing dynamics of the requirements of the population regarding quality education, innovations and research aiming to make India a knowledge domain by equipping its human resource with the necessary skills’’, said Prof. Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. J N Walia of Central University Jammu, who was the key speaker in the seminar, said that education needs a revamp to ensure the development and optimum utilization of the skill of the teachers in imparting instructions to the students. He further said that the main objective behind organizing the national seminar was to discuss challenges in education sector at both school and higher level. He discussed in detail the need of information communication technology (ICT) for sustainable development, holistic education, skill and vocational development along with other important issues.Organising Secretary, National Seminar, P K Rao discussed various issues related to the higher education and said that Education is the best legacy a country can give to its citizens. Stressing on the importance of education he stated that education is a human right that should be accorded to all solely by the reason of being human.Ch. Lal Singh in his address said that over the years the gap between educational policies and goal attainment due to inadequate implementation of these policies has become great concern to many observers.
This seminar is important in identifying the implementation constraints. He further said that a policy brings about a meaningful relationship between objectives and functions as it discourages deviations from planned courses of action and a policy does not have to be rigid, as there should be room for adjustment if necessary after its formulation.Among others Principal GDC Hiranagar, GDC Mahanpur, GDC Thathri, Ex Principals , faculty members and students in large numbers were also present.
