The Department of Information and Public Relations organized an impressive cultural show in collaboration with Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar here today as part of Republic Day-2016 celebrations.Director General Information and Public Relations, Mr Zaffar Ahmad Bhat was the chief guest on the occasion while Principal, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Prof (Dr) Kiran Bakshi, was the guest of honour.Director Doordarshan Kendra Jammu, Ms Anjali Sharma, officers and staff of the Information Department and various other departments including Cultural Academy and Radio, faculty members of GCW Gandhi Nagar, prominent citizens, members of civil society, media-persons and students of different educational institutions were present to witness the mega cultural programme.

The colorful cultural program showcased, through musical performances, the composite culture of Jammu and Kashmir which left the jam-packed audience at the GCW auditorium spellbound, who lauded the performances with thundering applause.The programme started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by Director General Information and Principal GCW Gandhi Nagar which was followed by variety of folk and traditional musical performances by the students of GCW Gandhi Nagar, Heritage School Jammu, Model Institute of Education and Research Jammu and CRPF.The cultural items presented at the show included Dogri Kud dance, Kashmir rouf, Ladakhi dance, Haryanvi dance, Tamil Kadgam dance by CRPF, Pahari dance, Dogri music and Punjabi Giddha.  Solo Ghazal and patriotic song were presented by Mr Jeewan Sharma of the Information Department and Ms Indu Bala of GCW Gandhi Nagar.

The dance and musical performances were composed and choreographed by Mr Shashi Kumar, Ms Urja Singh, Mr Akash Dogra and Mr Yash Pal Yash. Later the Director General Information, Mr Zaffar Ahmad Bhat, along with Joint Director Information Jammu, Mr Naginder Singh Jamwal, Joint Director Information (HQs), Mr Abdul Majid Zargar, Dy Director Information (HQs), Mr Anil John and Deputy Director Information (PR), Ms Afshan Masood presented mementos to the participating students and artists.Mementos were also presented to the Principal, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Prof (Dr) Kiran Bakshi and Mr Ravi Kant, who conducted the proceedings of the programme.Director General Information and Public Relations lauded, Mr Raman Joshi, Cultural Officer, Department of Information for his diligent efforts in organizing such an impressive show.
