Terming the celebrating of its Republic Day in the disputed region by India as a crude joke, Jammu Kashmir National Front chairman and Hurriyat leader, Nayeem Ahmad Khan today said that by such childish acts New Delhi is trying to hide the fact that Kashmiri people have never taken any interest in the national festivals of India and they want an immediate end of the occupation.Appealing people to act on the already publicised programme of Hurriyat Conference, Nayeem Ahmad Khan said that world community should know that Kashmiri people stand aloof of the Indian Republic Day celebrations.“India has massacred one lakh Kashmiris since last two and a half decades, disappeared more than eight thousand after taking them into custody,” Nayeem Khan said adding “and it is shamelessly celebrating its Republic Day in Kashmir.”Nayeem Ahmad Khan said India has no moral or constitutional logic to celebrate its national festivals in the disputed region of Kashmir instead it must openly accept its disputed nature and take steps for its resolution.“If New Delhi wants to play any role on the global issues and if it wants to enjoy a permanent membership of the UNSC, it is obligatory for it to resolve the Kashmir dispute and not to hide historical facts under the cover of its Republic Days and Independent Days,” Nayeem Ahmad Khan said.
He said that world must know that despite massacres of innocent Kashmiris at the hands of Indian occupied forces Kashmiri people have not given up their demand for the fulfilment of promises made to them on the international level.He paid tributes to the martyrs of Handwara who were massacred at the hands and Indian occupied forces on January 25, 1990.Nayeem Ahmad Khan said that a protest march was taken out in Handwara town against the January 21 Gaw Kadal massacre. When the procession reached near police station Handwara, Indian Border Security Force resorted to indiscriminate firing killing dozens of unarmed protesters.Nayeem Ahmad Khan said that same India is now trying to lure Kashmiris and organise programmes but people should know that India is an occupier and its forces are just killers of innocents.He strongly condemned the arresting of people at nook and corner of the valley and unleashing of terror by the men in uniform in the garb of security ahead of January 26.
