The District Development Commissioner Kupwara, today convened a meeting of officers of Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Sericulture and Fisheries departments to review progress of these departments .It was given out that under Animal Husbandry sector 90 percent funds have been utilized under various centrally sponsored schemes up to December 2015. Under district plan Rs 12.78 lakhs were utilized out of allotted Rs 17.23 lakhs. About 23000 artificial insemination were conducted and 8,000 new animal births were registered.It was further informed that 1.90 lakh animals and 7.98 poultry birds were vaccinated. The  milk production has reached 83000 metric tons in the district, besides 130 poultry units were established in private sector.While reviewing the Sheep Husbandry sector it was informed that the sheep population in Kupwara has reached up to 1.94 lakh heads which include 1.16 lakh cross breeds. The goat population has registered 80,000 heads. It was informed that mutton and wool production has registered 13.33 lakh Kgs and 3.10 lakh Kgs respectively.It was further informed that department has treated 1.36 lakh sheeps for various ailments while 80,000 were vaccinated during the period. About 33 rams were provided to farmers, 14 rams were purchased under RKVY and 92 rams were provided to shepherds on subsidized rates by the department.
