DDC Kupwara reviews literacy awareness schemes

The District Development Commissioner Kupwara convened a meeting today to review various literacy awareness schemes in the district.The meeting was attended by Chief Education Officer Kupwara, Director State Education Research Centre (Kashmir University), District Youth Services & Sports, Chief Planning Officer and concerned Zonal Education Officers.The CEO informed the meeting that 89850 students up to middle standard and other 28930 students have been covered under free distribution of text books and mid-day meals till December 2015 in the district. Out of 1725 ongoing works 1425 works have been completed during the period, while 90.61 percent funds have been utilized under the various schemes of Education department.Director CRC (KU), who was on the tour to Laderwan village in connection with implementation of Saakshar Bharat Mission  said the village is being covered under literacy campaign carried out by the CRC Srinagar in collaboration with Education department, ICDS, JSS and Rural Development Department.She said the village is being adopted to generate 100 percent literacy rate till March 2016, for which a monitoring committee has been formed which includes religious preachers of the area as well. It was also given out that funds and logistical is being provided for successful conduct of the mission.The District Development Commissioner impressed upon the participants to identify five villages in each Panchayats, where the SBM implementation is being adopted. The CEO Kupwara was directed to pay visit to review functioning of the centres being setup by CRC in the district.
