The 27th Road Safety Week being observed in the district concluded here today with a painting competition and a symposium on road safety organized by the Motor Vehicles Department Kathua in collaboration with District Administration Kathua at Vivekananda College of Education Lakhanpur. Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Ramesh Kumar was The chief Guest on the ocassion.The DC appreciated the performance of the students and complimented the Motor Vehicles Department and the College Management for organizing the event. He said that road safety requires a multi – prolonged endeavor of all stakeholders like transport sector, highway engineers, police, health sector, insurance sector, legal sector, educational institutions, NGOs and the community at large.

The RTO said that there is great need of strict adherence to traffic rules for smooth flow of traffic and safety of people.Later, a cultural programme and a skit on road safety was presented by the students of the college.The students from various schools of the district including Hr. Secondary School Kathua, Nav Adharsh School, Kathua, Spring Dale School , Kathua, Kids Heaven Convent High School, Kathua, Minerva Public School Kathua, Govt. High School Sherpur (Hiranagar,Kathua) and Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Sallan, Billawar took part in the symposium and highlighted road safety rules.The chief guest distributed prizes among the winners of the symposium and painting competition besides appreciation certificates were also presented to all the participants and the Red Cross Volunteers who participated in different events during the week.Among other activities during the day, an impressive rally was taken out by the students of the Shiva Public High School, Shiva Nagar, Kathua. Among others present were RTO, Kathua Amarjeet Singh, ARTO Kathua, Yasir Arafat, DEPO Kathua, Aruna Sharma and ADMO, Bikram Jamwal.The prominent citizens of Kathua and students of various schools alongwith teachers and parents participated in the function.
