DY CM directs for preparing comprehensive report for monorails in Jammu, Sgr

Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today directed the officers to prepare a comprehensive project report for plying of monorails in the twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar under the urban mobility plan so that traffic flow is regulated and also for the benefit of the people living there.The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting to discuss the status of implementation of various developmental initiatives being undertaken by the Government in different sectors of Housing and Urban development. It was attended by Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Bipul Pathak, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Ms. Mandeep Kour and other senior officers.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that a mobility plan for having monorails in the twin capital cities has already been formulated by RITES Ltd and now the officers should synergize their activities and work out the various other formalities and procedures so that this endeavor of Government gets completed. He said that by having monorails the menace of traffic congestion would be addressed to a larger extent besides providing new means of transportation to the commuters.Dr. Singh also asked the officers to fast pace the work on the prestigious multi-tier parking being constructed at Panjthirthi so that the parking problems of the major chunk of population living in this part of old city gets resolved. He said that they should be holding regular meetings regarding the status of implementation, so that bottlenecks if any are removed at the earliest and the project completed within the stipulated time.

While asking for speedy completion of the twin flyovers being constructed from Bikram Chowk in Jammu and Rambagh in Srinagar, the Deputy Chief Minister asked for proper monitoring of these and also maintaining a close coordination with the executing agency so that they are completed within the stipulated time period and traffic is regulated at these two crucial junctions. He said that they should also ensure that quality of the materials being used is of high standard and longevity.The Deputy Chief Minister also asked for coming up with a comprehensive action plan for replacing the street lights of the cities and towns with LED bulbs so that the conservation of electric energy is ensured. He said by doing so we would be saving power to a large extent besides also curtailing the amount being spend on the same which can be used for other developmental activities. Dr. Singh also directed for speeding up the pace of other developmental works in both the divisions of the state. He said that we have to ensure that people get all the modern and basic requirements of urban living replete with other facilities at par with the other cities of the country.
