The Youth Akali Dal President and Punjab Minister for Revenue and Information and Public Relations, Bikram Singh Majithia said here that Captain Amarinder Singh and Manpreet Singh Badal were performing political somersaults like circus twins. He said that it was ridiculous to see the biggest champions of heavy taxes and abolition of subsidies, Manpreet Singh Badal and Captain Amarinder Singh, now shedding crocodile tears over the development-oriented resource mobilization measures of the Punjab Government.He asked both Capt. Singh and Manpreet Singh Badal to clarify their stand on the phenomenal hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and other essential commodities, cooking gas during the tenure of the UPA.He was addressing a gathering of eminent workers, leaders and office bearers of the Youth Akali Dal here this morning. Majithia thanked the youth leaders for their hard work and contribution to the victory of the party in the just concluded Vidhan Sabha polls. Majthia called upon the workers and office bearers of Youth Akali Dal to function as role models in integrity, commitment and service in their personal and public conduct “In speech after speech as Finance Minister of the State, Manpreet Singh Badal never failed to put pressure on his own Govt. to impose taxes and user charges on the people of the State and to abolish free electricity to farmers, Atta-Dal scheme for the poor, Shagun scheme for dalits and other social welfare schemes of SAD-BJP Govt. Captain Amarinder Singh also chided the Government for what he called the lack of courage to impose taxes, alleging that the treasury of the state was empty. He even advocated declaration of fiscal emergency. It is a proof of their political hypocrisy that these two leaders now wanted the state to roll back its revenue generation measures aimed at speeding up development activities and giving better services and facilities to the people” said Majithia.On Manpreet, Majithia said that it was funny that a person who was always advocating taxes is now enacting the tamsha of dharnas against them. If Capt. Amarinder Singh and Manpreet Singh were serious on this issue, they should stage dharnas in front of 10 Janpath because the centre has been consistently denying funds to Punjab as the SAD-BJP Government had not levied any taxes.Describing Manpreet Badal and Capt. Amarinder Singh as ‘Strange and unprincipled bed fellows’, Majithia said. “It is easier talking about principles than living by them, said Majithia. He reminded Capt. Singh of his description of Manpreet as an unprincipled and arrogant politician and a flash in the pan. On the other hand, Manpreet to had time and again reiterated that he would never betray the people and their trust by joining hands with the Congress. A visibly emotional Majithia said the SAD victory and his own triumph in the Vidhan Sabha elections by such a huge margin were made possible by the SAD workers The YAD president assured the youth workers that they would be a part of the decision making process and would be given due representation in the government. “I give you my word that I will be your voice at every level in the government and will take up all your demands with the Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal and the Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal”, said Majithia.
