The state government is shortly going to constitute a Law Commission that will examine all the existing laws and suggest modifications, if necessary, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said on Tuesday.Addressing the annual conference of All Odisha Lawyers' Association at Cuttack, he said lawyers should take up social responsibility and work for the benefit of poor and disadvantaged."Lawyers are the protectors of the legal system and they must use their expertise for greater social justice. To promote progressive democratic values, lawyers should act like statesmen heavily engaged in public interest and pro-bono practice," Patnaik said.

"Every civilised society sustains itself on 'rule of law'. If there is one principle which runs through the entire fabric of the constitution, it is the principle of rule of law." Supreme Court judge Dipak Mishra said: "Every citizen of India, more so lawyers, has significant responsibilities to establish, accept, endeavour and strive for a constitutional identity. Lawyers are responsible to help people who are unable to establish their constitutional identities."Law minister Arun Sahu said the government was well aware of the demands of lawyers and it would take steps accordingly.
