Babbehali, (Gurdaspur) , 31 Aug 2012

The Punjab DeputyChief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said that Congress led UPA  Government should stop arm-twisting of state government forcing them to levy more taxes on common man.In a media interaction at the residence of Gurbachan Singh Babbehali, Chief Parliamentary Secretary after laying the  foundation stones of a 66KV Substation and Bus stand at Gurdaspur,  Badal said that it was unfortunate that Congress led UPA Government was  laying pre-conditions for releasing the legitimate share of state in the central taxes. He said that Punjab Government had been resisting pressure of Union Government to impose property tax but Congress led UPA Government withheld the sanctioned grants of JNURM as we  had not imposed tax on their dictate. He said that last year despite all sanctions they withheld Rs. 1100 crore under various projects of JNURM as we had not imposed the taxes, this year also they were withholding the grants of 900 crore for the Urban Renewal Projects till we impose property tax. He said that despite constant pleadings Union  Government failed to saw the reason. He said that we were forced  by the  Congress led UPA government to impose these taxes on Urban population  as not imposing taxes would have resulted in total stoppage of all urban  renewal projects. Badal said that pre-conditions on the state for releasing their legitimate share in the central taxes were against the basic spirit of constitution and SAD-BJP Government had been impressing upon Union Government to do away with all conditions  and introduce flexibility allowing the states to spend funds according to their local needs.Taking a dig at Captain Amarinder Singh and other Congress leaders for opposing taxes, Badal said that instead of speaking against SAD-BJP Government they should stage dharna before 10 Janpathforcing their Congress led UPA government to remove these anti ‘Aam Aadmi’ preconditions.Speaking about the Multilakh crore Coalgate scam, Badal said that Congress was a like East India Company that was looting the assets of the country and depositing in Swiss Banks. He said that earlier the Congress Party leaves the country better it would be for the country. When asked about emerging political scenario in the country, Badal said that days of National Parties were over and Regional Parties were getting more and more stakes in the national affairs. Earlier congratulating the Babbehali family for keeping intact the tradition of hosting Punjab’s one of the oldest traditional rural wrestling championships, Badal said that the Punjab government was committed to bring back the lost glory of state in sports and chalked out an ambitious plan to develop sports culture in the state. He said that 13 stadiums have been constructed and upgraded to international standard at a cost of Rs.150 crore. Besides this, 5 new synthetic hockey surfaces were being laid at Mohali, Faridkot, Bathinda, Ludhiana and at Punjab Institute of Sports, Ghuddha. He said that Jalandhar sports school was also being upgraded as state level sports institute. He said that the state government has also decided to organize 3rd edition of World Cup Kabaddi in the first week of December. The Deputy Chief Minister informed that a Rs.418 crore long term plan to strengthen sports infrastructure in the state has been chalked out for nurturing budding sports talent from the very beginning.Prominent amongst those were present on the occasion included Former Minister Sucha Singh Langah, Lakhbir Singh Lodhi Nangal, former MLA, Munawar Masih, Chairman Minority Commission, Punjab and Sukhbir Singh Wahla, Chairman Sugarfed, Punjab.
