Mother seeks whereabouts of her son says Shabir is innocent

‘He is a militant: SSP Jammu

A family from Tral town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district has been wandering from pillar to post in search of their loved one who according to them is untraceable after picked up the police from Jammu Bathindhi Jammu in the first week of November last month.The elderly mother and the two brothers of 19 years old Shabir Ahmed Malik, resident of Nagbal Tral appeared in Press Enclave Srinagar on Monday. They said that Shabir has been missing from past one month and they don’t know why he was arrested and where the police have kept him. “My son Shabir was working as a baker at a bakery shop in Nowgam Srinagar. In November Government Forces raided our house and enquired about his whereabouts. They picked up my another son Muhammad Amin and released him after two days. Later on we came to know that Shabir has been arrested by police from Bathandi Jammu. First they labelled him as LeT militant and later on police claimed that he is affiliated with Hizb outfit. We fail to understand how he reached Bathandi when he was present in Nowgam,” Mukhti Begum, the mother of Shabir told CNS.

She said that, “shortly before police raided their house, Shabir called us and informed that Tral police have called him and asked him to present himself at police station Tral. From that day he switched off his mobile phone. I am deeply concerned about his safety and want to meet him, but no security agency owns him.” Mukhti Begum said that Shabir is innocent and even Tral police have accepted that he is not involved in any militant activity.Denying that Police raided any house at Nagbal Tral, a police official told CNS that Shabir there is no FIR lodged against Shabir and as per police records he is not a militant or involved in any militancy related activity. He said that they came to know about Shabir when his family lodged a missing report about him in police station Tral.Pertinently, news reports had revealed that police arrested a man suspected to be a militant from the house of a former Sarpanch in Bathindhi area where he was staying for past two days. Confirming the arrest of Shabir Ahmed Malik, Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Uttam Chand to CNS that he is in police lock up and during questioning he has confessed that he worked for a militant organization. “I can’t tell you where he has been detained but he has accepted he worked for a militant organization,” he said.
