Senior Pro-Freedom leader and Salvation Movement Chairman Zaffer Akbar Bhat on the eve of International Human rights day led a peaceful protest rally against the rights abuses in Chadoora area of Budgam.Besides party leader and activists, a large number of people took part in the rally and protested against security forces for committing grave human rights abuses. Zaffer Akbar Bhat while addressing the gathering slammed India and its forces for committing human rights violations. He urged the United Nations Council for Human Rights to constitute a team to investigate the human rights violations being committed by Indian troops in the territory.He asked the Council to facilitate withdrawal of draconian laws from the occupied territory and complete demilitarization of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that due to heavy presence of Indian armed forces people of Kashmir have witnessed the worst kind of human rights abuses including massacres, killings, torture, disappearances, and rape and stressed the end of human rights abuses in Kashmir.Zaffer said that the systematic rights abuses were being perpetrated by the forces to crush the people’s peaceful ongoing freedom struggle but Kashmiris braved India’s oppression and suppression for achieving right to self determination.He said that forces perpetrated worst kind of human rights violations but UNHRC never interfered and thus rights violations continued to take place in Kashmir.Zaffer termed the human rights situation in Kashmir alarming and sought immediate intervention of UN. He also demanded establishment of crime tribunal for prosecuting the security men involved in heinous crimes.
Meanwhile, Women’s wing of Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement held a peaceful protest demonstration against human rights violations perpetrated by the Indian security forces in Press enclave Srinagar.Secretary Ruqiya Baji led the protest demonstration and sough intervention of international human rights watchdogs for protecting rights of defenseless Kashmiris who are being traumatized on each passing day.She said that the abuses perpetrated by the forces include mass killings, forced disappearances, torture, rape and sexual abuse, political repression and suppression of freedom of speech. Ruqiya said that such rights abuses committed by forces have shaken the conscience of humanity all over the world but unfortunately world’s body United Nation always gave cold shoulder to plight of Kashmiris.She said that the credibility of UN and UNHRC is at stake as the institution failed miserably in Kashmir to protect unarmed civilians from the brutality of forces. She demanded a through probe by UNHRC into Shopain double rape and murder and Kunan-Poshpora incidents in which security forced raped women. (KNS)
