The Board of School Education (BOSE) has started evaluation of the answer papers of 10th and 12th class annual regular examination held in November-December this year. The BOSE authorities have hired around 250 subject experts to evaluate the 10th class answer papers while as around 175 experts are engaged to assess the answer scripts of 12th class students.“We have set up a transparent system for evaluation process which will be student-friendly. There will be no bar for students to re-examine their answer papers if they have any doubts after the declaration of results,” said Joint Secretary Secrecy BOSE, M A Jaloo.Referring to the recent incident of a student taking extreme step due to a lapse by the evaluator, the official said BOSE has a re-evaluation procedure in place since past many years. “In case of any lapse, students are free to apply for re-checking or re-evaluation of papers,” he said.Jaloo said BOSE provides the Xerox copies of answers papers to the students who contest the evaluation done by the examiner.“After declaration of the results, we publish a separate notification and invite applications for re-evaluation or re-checking from students,” he said.

“But the re-evaluation process takes us around two months as BOSE has to mutilate the earlier marks given by the examiner and the same paper is sent for re- evaluation outside state. This way the re-evaluation process takes some time.”He said BOSE has not barred the students from getting their papers re-evaluated.“They should approach us with application but should not take any extreme step. There can be some errors from our side but students should refrain from playing with their lives as there are proper ways to resolve issues.”This year around 59000 students have appeared in 10th annual exams while as 51676 students appeared in 12th class regular examination.Referring to BOSE standards, he said the results of 10th class examinations would be declared within 45 days, however, the non-availability of subject experts in 12th class may delay its results.

“We don’t face any problems in 10th class but the main hiccup is in 12th class as there is dearth of subject experts,” Jaloo said, adding that BOSE has 43 different subjects in 12th class including some language based subjects as well. “We don’t have experts in Persian and alike subjects due to which it takes time to declare the 12th class results.”BOSE has arranged a round table evaluation process where in each evaluator has to check around 30-40 papers a day of which the head examiner has to check the 30 percent of the total papers evaluated in a day. “We have around five evaluators on one table and one head examiner who has to check around 30 percent of the papers evaluated on his table.”The officials in BOSE said the 10th class evaluators are paid Rs 10 per paper while as the evaluators hired for 12th class are paid Rs 15 per paper.
