A Tibetan nun was severely beaten and arrested by Chinese police after she raised slogans in the main market in Karze in eastern Tibet on 25 August.Shedup Lhamo, a 33-year-old nun of Karze Gaden Choeling Nunnery, shouted slogans for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, freedom for Tibetans and the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet, while throwing pamphlets in the air. She was immediately apprehended and severely beaten by the police before being taken away to a prison. A foreigner who took photos of the incident was also detained.Another report coming out of Tibet says the whereabouts and well-being of two monks of Kirti monastery – Lobsang Sangay, 30, and Lobsang Kunchok, 40, – have remained unknown since they were arrested by police in Ngaba on 14 and 17 August respectively.Meanwhile, the police have released two monks of Kirti Monastery named Sangdue and Lobsang Tenzin after detaining them for a week for interrogation. Lobsang Tenzin was earlier sentenced to 3 years in prison in 1998. He was incarcerated for over a month when an unprecedented peaceful protest shoot Tibet in 2008.
