The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Punjab Congress leader Amarinder Singh not to beat around the bush and clearly tell the people of Punjab whether he or his family members had any Swiss bank account/ trust or not.In a statement here, senior party leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said if Amarinder or his family members did have an account or trust abroad, he should come clean immediately. “If you do have an account or trust in Switzerland it proves that you transferred ill gotten wealth during your tenure as chief minister of Punjab abroad. You are duty bound to tell the people why you resorted to wanton loot of the people who reposed so much trust in you. You must also tell why you denied your family’s involvement in the intranet scam during your tenure when the issue of transfer of funds abroad was first brought to the people’s notice”.
Saying the chickens had finally come home to roost, Dr Cheema said it would be best for Amarinder to admit his guilt and apologise to the people of Punjab besides announcing to quit politics immediately. “Please don’t think you can bluster your way out of this because the Swiss authorities have incriminating evidence of your accounts or trust and its details before they invited your family members to file objections if any before they sent the details to the Indian authorities. Your goose is cooked. You have nowhere to run. False bravado and self righteous anger of rank and fame will not help you. You will have to face the law of the land like a common criminal", Dr Cheema addedThe SAD leader said in case Amarinder still had to gall to lie and claim he did not have any account or trust in Switzerland he should clearly state that he would quit politics if proven otherwise.
“People want straight answers from you at a time when they are faced with the truth that you savaged your own State and its citizens to fill your own coffers. It is unfortunate that you are giving interviews on all subjects except the one people want to know most about. Do you have a Swiss bank account or not. Answer that.”The SAD also asked Amarinder not to try to be brash and lie through his nose about the veracity of his family’s Swiss bank accounts. “This will not get you anywhere. The people are not fools. They understand if the Swiss authorities have given exact details of your wife and son along with their date of births that means they have details submitted by the latter while opening these bank accounts. Moreover people also realize that your claim of political vendetta against you does not have any basis. After all there is no need for the Swiss authorities to partner with anyone to implicate you. The Swiss take pride in their honesty and integrity. No one can accuse them of any wrong doing.”
