The Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Thursdayexpressed concern over the “miserable condition” of Kashmiri prisoners in Tihar Jail and has appealed the human rights organisations including the Amnesty International to take serious notice of the situation. He said the Muslims particularly Kashmiris are “ill-treated” in Tihar jail of New Delhi. In a statement issued to GNS, Geelani said whatever Mahmood Ayoub Dar alias Topiwala, one of the Tihar detainees, said regarding “the woeful tale of miseries and tortures” of Kashmiri prisoners in Tihar, should serve as a “wake-up” call for the conscience of the human rights organizations.“The Kashmiri prisoners in Delhi prison are being harassed even for the glass of water. The daily wages of a skilled prisoner has been declared Rs 128 but the detainees in Tihar jail are denied this right and from last two months they are not being paid for their works,” Geelani while quoting Topiwala said.He said jail authorities are subjecting the Muslim detainees especially Kashmiri prisoners to forced labour and have created an extreme corrupt system there.

“Although this kind of treatment with Muslim prisoners inside the Delhi and other Indian jails is a normal process but the attitude of Tihar jail authorities towards Kashmiri detainees is very biased and revengeful,” Geelani said.Geelani appealed the UNO and Amnesty International to use their influence and come to rescue of Kashmiri and Muslim prisoners in Indian Jails.Paying rich tributes to patience and courage of youths and pro-freedom Kashmiri prisoners Geelani said it is a huge sacrifice. “We will Insha Allah (God Willing) definitely succeed in our freedom struggle and one day these sacrifices will show their result.”The Hurriyat (G) Chairman reiterated his appeal for peaceful protest demonstration after Friday prayers on 27 November against “the unnecessary harassment and detention of youths, continuous detention of pro-freedom leaders and ill-treatment with Kashmiri detainees in Tihar Jail, Delhi” and said the protest “should be peaceful, disciplined and dignified in every respect.” (GNS)
