A delegation of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) and Medical Employees Federation (MEF) led by President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan on Tuesday met PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and expressed their concern over worsening condition of GMC and associated hospitals.Speaking on the occasion president DAK said that deterioration in functioning of GMC and associated hospitals is because of mismanagement and rising corruption which is responsible for poor patient outcomes. The delegation expressed dismay over continuation of re-employed principal GMC Dr Rafiq Pampori despite termination of all re-engagements by government and demanded his immediate removal.Pointing towards deep rooted nexus between some shoddy pharma companies and drug mafia delegation voiced serious concern over unabated influx of spurious/substandard drugs in valley which is responsible for high mortality among patients.

Mentioning Kashmir as safe haven for spurious drug dealers’, delegation said that whole drug market is under the dragnet of spurious drugs due to unchecked and unregulated market. The delegation urged PDP president that government should take effective measures to curb the menace of spurious drugs which is responsible for loss of precious human lives. While seeking ban on private practice delegation said that it is the root cause of mess in GMC and associated hospitals.Private practice is mother of all evils as it has stemmed lobbyism, infighting and corruption besides patient care is the biggest causality.During the meet delegation requested Mehbooba Mufti to reinstate Dr Nisar ul Hassan who was suspended by previous regimen for raising voice against spurious drugs.Mehbooba Mufti after giving a patient hearing assured delegation that their demands will be redressed and said that health sector is her highest priority and government is committed to quality health care to all.
