Terming capacity building and skill development vital for achieving the goals envisaged under “Make in India” campaign, the Minister for Cooperation Chering Dorjey asked to make concerted efforts to empower youth with specialized skill enhancement programme.The Minister said this after inaugurating the 62nd National Cooperative Week which is being celebrated from November 14 to 20th at Jammu here today.The function was organized in the Cooperative Complex, Bantalab wherein the Secretary Cooperatives Hilal Ahmad Parray and Registrar Cooperatives Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmed were the guests of honor. The unique attraction of the programme was a cooperative society presented its documents which are a century old.Stressing on   generating mass awareness about the social and economic benefits of co-operatives, the Minister said that strengthening the  cooperative movement can give a much needed fillip to the rural economy. 

He said that concerted efforts are needed from all the stakeholders to ensure that the cooperative movement is revived to provide employment opportunities and generate income for its members, Dorjey said that the National Cooperative Week is celebrated every year throughout the country to increase the awareness among general public about the important roles of cooperative movement in the Indian society and economy.He said a lot of activities like debates and seminars are organized while celebrating this event in order to assess the development and highlight the immense achievements of cooperatives in the economy.Secretary Cooperative appreciated the lead taken in celebrating the Week and expressed his satisfaction that such programmes have twin purpose of commemorating the event besides creating awareness among the people about the virtues of Cooperatives. He also emphasized that the theme has to be translated into action so that a flourishing Cooperative Movement is witnessed in the State.

Registrar Cooperatives gave a brief statistics of the skilled workers in various developed countries and attributed their development to the fact that they are having a maximum percentage of the population as skilled workers.The function was also attended by Additional Registrar, Jammu, Anjana Tickoo, Joint Registrar Trishla Kumari, Joint Registrar R. K. Thapa, Joint Registrar Inderjeet and Deputy Registrars Naresh Sharma, Ramkesh Sharma, Mukesh Thapa and Viqar Giri.Similarly, prominent among the participants were, Mohinder Singh, Chairman, JCC Bank, V. K. Magoo Chairman, J&K Cooperative Housing Corporation, Krishi Pandit Bakshi Ganesh Dass, General Secretary J&K Cooperative Union and Kailash Verma, Chairperson, Jammu Women’s Credit Cooperative Ltd.
