The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira's statement demanding the release of those who had attacked SAD leaders was proof of the Congress design to incite violence in Punjab. In a statement here, senior SAD leader and MP Prem Singh Chandumajra said the statement of Khaira clearly proved that the Congress had plotted to target SAD leaders in the aftermath of recent incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. He said this also proved the Punjab Congress was hand in glove with anti- SAD and anti-Punjab elements whose sole motive was to disturb peace and communal harmony of the State.
Questioning the locus standi of Congress leader Sukhpal Khaira in demanding the release of those who had indulged in violence, Mr Chandumajra said "someone who is seen to have encouraged the youth to resort to such activities cannot make such a demand". Asking the congress leader not to make big utterances about people's rights, the SAD mp said in the last Congress government the voice of students, farmers and employees had been muzzled. They said the people had still not forgotten how their rights were brutally suppressed during the emergency.Mr Chandumajra said Khaira had lost relevance in his own party and by making such irresponsible statements he wanted to gain spotlight to prolong his political innings. The SAD mp warned Congress that it would not succeed in its nefarious designs to drive a wedge between various sections of the society and SAD would stand like a rock to foil the evil designs of the congress to tear apart social fabric of Punjab.
